Clarion Issue 16

AGNI is the literary magazine that usually springs to mind when you think of Boston University, but it’s not the only one. Clarion is a small print journal that has been produced by the BU Literary Society since 1999. Issue 16 is now in print and features “275”, a poem that I’m quite proud of. Its inspiration was a gigantic Alphonse Mucha painting entitled “Plamínek naděje”, meaning “Flame of Hope”, depicting the last moments of an exiled Bohemian church father as he looks out across the Baltic sea. See here for subscriptions (currently the only way to purchase the magazine). That’s all for now!

Forge Issue 7.2

You can now view three of my poems online at Forge: 297, a translation of Baudelaire’s “Le Flacon”, 311, an ekphrasis poem based on an Emil Nolde painting, and 319, a little sketch of some robins fighting outside my window. All three are in the print edition, which is available at lulu.com.

A Clean, Well Lighted Place Vol. 5

A poem I wrote for the Adroit Journal summer workshop is being published in A Clean, Well-Lighted Place. It’s about a guy who waits out a huge storm on an island, taking shelter in an old shack. Any magazine named after a Hemingway short story is alright with me. Pick it up in print or digital here.

Update: the issue is now also available on Amazon.

Lost in Thought Issue 5

When Robert Vaughan at Lost in Thought got in contact with my earlier this year and asked me to write something for the new issue, I’d already had my greedy eyes on the magazine for some time. Simply put, it’s one of the most beautifully designed and thoughtfully curated American literary magazines I’ve come across, a fact that is all the more remarkable given that its staff is comprised of just two guys. Anyway, their approach is quite novel: they research artwork for the upcoming issue, and then send images to writers whom they feel the images would suit. Once they have all the writing and artwork they experiment with visuals and text in some fresh, charming ways. The poem I wrote for them is a recent favourite, about a Metro-North conductor. Pick up the issue in print or digital versions here.

Electric Windmill Issue 7

The guys at Electric Windmill decided to give me another go around. They now list me as a “regular contributor”, which I’m quite inordinately chuffed about. Pick up the PDF of #007 here. Another poem about Ophelia! Don’t say I don’t take on varied subjects. The print edition may appear in the Fall, but the last one still didn’t appear yet, so who knows? That’s all for now, mes poules. Good evening!

Vector Press Issue 2

The second issue of Vector Press is available to pre-order, and it contains three poems I wrote last year. Like a lot of what I was writing at the time, they use a lot of pastoral imagery. Genießen Sie!

Burningword Issue 67

I have three poems in the latest issue of Burningword. The first is based on a Sérusier still-life, the second on a painting of a rabbi by Marc Chagall. The third is my translation of a Rimbaud sonnet about Ophelia. You can pick up a digital or physical copy here.

Issue 67, July 2013

Circa Issue 9

Circa just put out their summer issue, containing three of my poems: shazam. The first is a translation of Rimbaud’s “Le Dormeur du val”, the second a piece I wrote after watching John Cassavetes’ The Killing of a Chinese Bookie, and the third a little sketch of our old French-Canadian landlord. More to come in the next couple of days!
